July brings peak summer conditions with the warmest pre-dawn temperatures and most stable weather. This is the busiest month, with the Rockpile viewpoint filling early. August maintains summer conditions but sunrise times shift noticeably later. This is historically the highest risk month for wildfire smoke from BC and Alberta fires. When clear, August delivers spectacular sunrises. The lake color remains vibrant, and the first hints of fall appear late in the month.

September is when the magic truly happens. The larch trees begin their golden transformation (typically mid-to-late September), creating one of the most photographed scenes in the Canadian Rockies. Crowds decrease after Labour Day, and the lower sun angle produces more dramatic alpenglow on the Ten Peaks.

October is the crown jewel for photographers. Peak larch colors (usually first week), fresh snow on peaks, fewer crowds, and the most dramatic sun angles of the season combine for truly spectacular sunrises. The road closes the day after Canadian Thanksgiving (typically October 14), so book early for this limited window.
