Elevated viewpoint, 5-min walk from parking
The iconic elevated viewpoint. This natural rock pile offers the classic view of all Ten Peaks visible in frame. The most photographed spot in the Canadian Rockies - perfect for wide-angle panoramas.
Lower Rockpile area, unique foreground
Great foreground rock composition discovered by our guide Mark. Requires 16mm on full frame or 12mm on APS-C for best results. Perfect for dramatic foreground-to-peaks compositions.
Base of Rockpile near water
Best for early season when lake level is low. While the water is less turquoise at this time, you'll have excellent foreground options with exposed rocks and interesting textures.
Northeast corner of Rockpile
Captures the full panorama of the Ten Peaks from a unique angle. Less crowded than the main summit, with a slightly different perspective that many photographers overlook.
Upper Rockpile area
An elevated view with excellent composition options for vertical shots. Perfect for capturing the dramatic height of the Ten Peaks against the turquoise waters below.
10-min walk along lakeshore trail
Get down to water level for stunning reflection shots. On calm mornings, the lake becomes a perfect mirror. Rocks and driftwood provide excellent foreground interest.

Far end of parking area, near Consolation Lakes trail
A unique perspective with the creek in the foreground flowing toward the peaks. Less crowded than other spots, great for long exposures capturing silky water movement.

Take 5 minutes to explore before committing to a spot. Conditions change throughout the morning.
The Rockpile gets crowded. Consider alternative spots for more creative compositions.
Wide angles for the classic view, but telephoto lenses compress the peaks beautifully.
